Food For Thought:

"Eating more Fruits and Vegetables is easy, fun, delicious and nutritious!"

Fruits and vegetables - colorful, tasty, and oh-so-healthy - is your family getting enough? The new slogan for promoting fruits and vegetables is "More Matters." The ways fruits and vegetables can be eaten are unlimited, and so are the health benefits. The new guidelines for how many cups of fruits and vegetables to eat daily varies with your calorie needs. Refer to MyPyramid.gov and enter your personal information for your recommended intake. Encourage your whole family to eat a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables every day.

At the grocery store, spend some time in the produce section. Have children name the different fruits and vegetables and point out fruits and vegetables of different colors, sizes and shapes. Buy a fruit or vegetable you haven't tried before. Have children help prepare fruits and vegetables for eating.

Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and high in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Most fruits and vegetables have about 2-3 grams of fiber per serving. Eating a wide variety of brightly colored fruits and vegetables maximizes your nutrition. Fruits and vegetables are most nutritious if handled carefully and not overcooked. Be sure to wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating.

Enjoy fruits and vegetables today!! More Matters!!
